What lies beyond us and what lies before us are tiny matters when compared to what lies within us. - Ralph Waldo Emerson, American poet, essayist and transcendentalist , born 1803
Every human development was first
embraced as a vision in the heart and mind of individuals
who were willing to think differently. Many of the things
we find useful, or necessary, or inspiring, or that we treasure
flow from private, inner moments of insight and desire.
A vision can ignite
endless passion and sweeping change, but at first it is just
a small thought with no fire in it. It is easy for such seeds
to disappear without a trace. Despite their fragility, they
begin the process of becoming real at the moment they appear
in the mind's eye. Vision always rocks the boat; it always
faces opposition and challanges. Vision and innovation are
the hope of the future and the mark of a vital society.
Through an extensive
process of community engagement, both formal and informal,
The Dreaming has explored the process of vision and imagination.
This inquiry has helped shape the meaning and design of the
artwork. This is an inquiry into personal imagination and
collective history making. In that spirit, the artist poses
this question to you:
If anything were
possible, if there were no limits, if success were guaranteed,
what would you choose to create?
Your answer may be used in The
Dreaming.
